Blackpool & District Canine Society – Old English Sheepdog – Judge Richard Morris (Lascoed)
A memorable day for me judging a most pleasing entry in a great breed. Sunshine and a cooling breeze helped the setting for the dogs and my thanks to my stewards Elaine and Lynne for all their patient help.
1. Laybourne & Johnson – Mellowdee The Magician In Dominoesdale Sh.CM.
Nine years old dog of grand breed type won the class on his superior bone quality and muscle finish overall especially long, thick, muscled second thighs. Masculine head and desirable eye colour, lovely tight and thickly padded feet, well bodied condition. Very fit for his age moving positively with drive and lowered head carriage, coat of correct harsh texture, well coloured with deep under pile, good depth of brisket and correctly balanced throughout.
2. Rathband & Fealy – Ch. Keynell New Moon
Eight years old bitch on the smaller side but pushed the winner hard and presented in lovely bloom with super head proportions and better spring of ribcage than the dog with superior bear roll gait when walking. Correct topline with excellent hindquarter muscling and hocks well set, a sound mover though not quite the flowing drive of the winner on the day. Excels in head qualities and expression, a lovely type and a close decision on the day.
1. Richardson – Storinblu Rhythm Of My Heart
Eleven months puppy with lovely strong neck and well placed shoulders, head developing in proportion with strong skull and promising truncated muzzle, full, wide, well pigmented nostrils, pleasing depth of body for his age and length of leg though more spring of ribcage hopefully may develop. A promising coat, hocks well set and long, muscular thighs, a free and lively mover, BPD & BP.
2. Windsor – Holanja Go Wild
At nine months another lacking spring of ribcage at this stage, well balanced head though not quite as masculine as the first dog, lovely dark coloured eyes well set and shaped, compact and squarely built overall. Strong across the loins for a youngster, developing long thighs, hocks well set and moved well.
3. Kelly – Mellowdee Circus Clown
The baby of the class at just six months eyes well coloured, shaped and set, full, wide nostrils, not quite the forward angulation of the winners, needs time to come on and coat still soft at this stage. Lovely dark pigmentation and displaying a delightful temperament.
1. Jones – Hickorystix Mr Bojangles At Cooljays
Full skull width and strength on this promising sixteen months old youngster with well defined stop, good eye colour, set and shape. Well sprung ribcage, short coupled with strongly boned forelegs, feet tightly formed and well padded, hindquarters well set and strong for his age. Square, compact build pleasing breed outline and a very sound mover. BJ
2. Halladay – Royal Croft Kaboom Key (Imp)
Thirteen and a half months smaller sized dog than the winner, squarely built with well textured coat, excellent strength of bone and thickly padded, arched feet. Good depth of brisket, coat well coloured with nice break and correct texture. Well constructed throughout and all in balance, full, wide nostrils well pigmented. Well handled and presented.
3. Kelly – Mellowdee Circus Clown
1. Rathband & Fealy – Keynell Midnight Moon
Two years two months old with a very profuse coat but better textured than second dog, shoulders well set with strong, well arched neck. Excellent strength of bone running down through pasterns, full skull with distinct stop, eyes well set and coloured, body had more slightly spring of ribcage than the second dog. Firm topline rising well with strength across the loins. A vigorous mover with powerful drive from the hocks propelled by well muscled hindquarters.
2. Huggan – Jandoes Born To Be Wild At Jazziespad
A smaller dog rising two years of age well angulated and squarely built strong across the loins with muscled hindquarters and deep second thighs. Compact outline not quite so developed in the head as the winner. Good bite with large well pigmented nostrils and less coat than the winner but not quite the quality of texture. Hocks well set, a sound, free flowing mover.
1. Deakin – Ch. Oldoak Kings Randsom At Darwillow
Super overall build, shape and angulation with lovely, fairly long, strongly arched neck, the best headed dog in the class in my opinion all masculine and well balanced with large nostrils on display on a mature five years old dog. Very balanced standing and moving, well sprung ribcage, strongly coupled, deep bodied and well conditioned with excellent overall muscling. A striking dog of quality with pleasing dark coloured coat well textured, powerful across the loins with well arched and thickly padded feet. Tended to move a tad close behind on times but lifting his hocks well, sound and free moving with elastic action, BD & BOB.
2. Fergusson – Mellowdee Moriarty With Lexalby Sh.CM.
A close decision to the winner on this two and a half years old dog, squarely balanced dog but would like a touch more height at the rear, carried a superior coat to the winner in my opinion for fullness of undercoat and harsher texture, supported on the very best of strong bone and tightly formed feet. Slight tendency to crabbing on the move on the day but essentially a sound mover, RBD.
3. Sharp – Brackenholme Boy Blue
A well balanced head on this three years old dog but not quite the masculine fullness of the winners on the day. The most typical rising topline in the class, mixed wall eye with full nostrils well pigmented. A super, sound mover though longer in body and not the spring of ribcage of those above him. Cleanly groomed and very well presented.
1. Deakin – Holanja Goody Too Shoes At Darwillow
Very well angulated ten months old puppy, a balanced head full of promise, compact outline and typical topline. Presented in excellent coat and body condition, long thighs at rear and hocks well set with super muscle development for her age, RBP.
1. Palmer – Hazylands Cheeky Girl
This twelve months bitch carried more hindquarter muscling and body condition than the second placed bitch, she possesses large, wide nostrils and rather better head development than the bitch below her though she also carried a softer coat texture at present. Compact outline, squarely built and well constructed, showed height at the rear, with more strength of bone and better rising topline compared to the second placed, RBJ.
2. Matthews – Hickorystix All That Jazz At Gojolega
Fifteen months of age pleasing breed type slightly profuse coat and constructed narrower in ribcage carrying less body condition than the winner today. Head feminine and well balanced, excellent strength of bone and tight, well padded feet, rich, dark pigmentation. Topline and hocks well set, a sound mover with rear action which I preferred to that of the winner on the day. Well handled and presented.
1. Winson & Winson – Jandoes Cristal Sparkles At Meisan
Lovely quality, breed type and temperament on this eighteen months old bitch, typical outline, outstanding strength of bone and full, thickly padded feet with well arched toes, well sprung ribcage with short body and good depth of brisket. Very well constructed and powerful across the loins, super harsh coat texture of unexaggerated length well presented. Moved with free flowing style and power in a most sound manner, with elastic gallop, bear roll walking and head carriage lowered, BB & BOS.
2. Howsam – Jandoes Blazin Georgie Girl
Rising two years of age another with an appealing outline squarely built, head well proportioned with strong skull and full muzzle, distinct stop, eyes well coloured and set apart. Good bone and feet, firm across the loins with correct topline rise on show though her coat is somewhat soft in texture at present in my opinion. Very sound and determined, flowing movement on show.
3. Simpson – Holanja Florence First Lady
Twenty months old with slightly close rear action on the day and rather profuse coat compared to those above her I considered, pleasing head qualities and lovely expression, super full, wide, black nostrils, eyes well set and coloured. Correct square build and pleasing outline, spring of ribcage adequate and firm across the loins but not quite the hindquarter muscling of the two winners though overall she displays many typical and desirable breed attributes.
1. Howsam – Jandoes Angel Glory
A five and a quarter year old who won on her correct size at withers, super substance and breed type. Pleasing outline with muscled strength and lovely fit condition on show, head feminine, well shaped and balanced, excellent bone and the best of well raised feet. A very soundly made and moving bitch with lovely coat colour, length, density and texture, RBB.
2. Oakes – Bovaron Charisma At Ambleoak
Two and a half years old and pushed the winner hard though smaller in size and scale, she is also full of quality and breed virtues but did not carry quite the finished body substance of the winner on the day though she moved with more drive and free flowing profile action than her. Excellent strength of bone, coat somewhat profuse for me but very well textured, dense and beautifully presented.
3. Gould – Sutranzo Moments Of Magic
Although third placed at three years of age this is a very promising bitch built along quality lines presented in hard, well muscled condition full of real substance. Excellent breed type with close, well textured coat with undercoat and despite being a reluctant shower was in fact the best mover in the class in my opinion.
