CHICHESTER & DISTRICT CANINE SOCIETY
GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY OPEN SHOW
SUNDAY 27TH JANUARY 2019
CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIELS
It was an honour to judge at this prodigious show after last judging there eighteen years ago. My thanks go to the committee for their warm welcome and my very efficient steward but mainly to the lovely exhibits and their handlers for allowing me the opportunity to offer my opinion of their qualities. Sadly there was a large air vent in the wall which seemed to upset some of the exhibits and it was a shame the group was shown in this ring.
Puppy 2 (1).
1st Yeates’ Merryanna Easter Buddy. Lovely 9 month blen puppy with a lot of promise. He was one who did not like the ring by the wall, however we managed to get him showing his qualities to his advantage. He has a masculine head typical of the breed with good mouth, black nose, round dark eyes. Well balanced with moderate neck allowing for good lay of shoulders with level topline and tail carriage, short in loin well turned stifle. Well broken coat coming through. BP and I was pleased to learn he was PG4.
Junior 2 (1).
1st Taylor’s Vonnyisle Portia at Taybar. 15 month blen very feminine bitch with a wealth of coat. Pretty head with large round eyes, black nose, good denture, long ear feathers. I loved her size she has good depth of chest with well laid shoulders short back and level topline, carried herself well on the move. RBOB.
Post Graduate 4.
1st Morrison’s Lewisisle Highland Betsy. Very full of herself this delightful 2 year old b/t bitch has a pretty head with dark expressive eyes, good mouth short in muzzle, and black nose. Well sprung barrel rib cage with deep chest and good shoulders. She moved well attentive to her handler. Good texture to coat with bright tan.
2nd Taylor’s Mastercut Jack Frost from Taybar. Like this 2year old blen dog’s head with big eyes and soft expression. Dark pigment with a wealth of coat. Moved well he has good shoulders and turn of stifle. 3rd Cornelius’ Cosham’s Giselle. Res.Sellen’s Merryanna King Edward.
Limit 6 (2).
1st Smith’s Sallcot Hallelujah Chorus. Another winner who didn’t like the wall ! However we managed to get her to relax and move out well. She is a perfect size for me and so well balanced. Short coupled, good depth of chest with well laid shoulders level topline and good tail carriage. In between coats which only allowed me to see how well made she is. Pretty 4 year Ruby bitch with a sweet head, dark eyes, moderate stop, dark pigment and good teeth. Was happy to award her BOB.
2nd Morrison’s Highland Bracken. 2year old ruby boy with rich pigment making his coat seemingly to glow. He has such a strong masculine head with large dark melting eyes, strong jaws with good mouth black lips and nose. Moved out well with positive hind movement, nice shoulders, longer in back. 3rd Cragg’s Loranka’s High Class Lady with Aureus. Res Case’s Cobbets Catalonia at Ginajay.
Open 4 (1).
1st Cole’s Car Don Barzini. 4 year blen dog with a masculine head displaying the coverted spot, dark round eyes and long ear feathering. He showed himself to be well balanced on the move with level topline and good tail set. Wealth of coat well broken with good tan.
2nd Morrison’s Lewisisle Highland Hamish ShCM. An old favourite of mine I awarded him BOB when he was younger he is now 71/2 and wearing his age well with good teeth and rich ruby coat. Handsome head with dark eyes giving an enduring expression. Made good use of the ring being well boned with plenty of drive to his excellent movement.
3rd Smith’s Sallcott Harmony.
