How are we all doing this week in Chihuahua Town? It’s been a busy and exciting week here; I’ve had one of my girls scanned to reveal a singleton puppy. I’ve never had a single puppy litter before so if any of you have any tips/advice it’s more than welcome! I’m also happy to put any advice you clever people are willing to impart in to the breed notes for the benefit of others.
Last weekend was Three Counties. What a lovely show! The weather was super, a little overcast and chilly to begin with but the sun soon made an appearance. The atmosphere around the ring was heart warming – lots of friendly chats going on and cheers from the ringside. Nice large rings with the grass having been cut, and in the long coat ring, we certainly had a comedian for a steward!
Longs: DCC Mr & Mrs Alarion’s Louis Vuitton De Lisle Au Vert Coteau, RDCC Lee Humphreys’ Ch Amarantos Tobin, BCC and BOB Steve Rooney’s Ch Donami Limelight, RBCC Rosie Clarke’s Oxsirius Neon Tiger and BP Sharon Robson’s Rushwarden’s Ultraviolet Of Tidos, who then went on to take Puppy Group 3! Colin Craggs was delighted to take 1st in MPD with Reynoldco Sweet William and Jim Culverhouse took BPD with Baby Boom Mano Efektas With Lykath (Imp).
Smooths: DCC and BOB was Shi-Chen’s Copymear Calendar Boy JW, expertly handled by Steve Rooney and taking Group 4! Everyone in the Chihuahua community was thrilled with this and I’ve seen nothing but positive and congratulatory comments on social media. RDCC Carol and Amy Davies’ Ch Dachida’s Johnnie Hot Rocks, BCC Christine Fairburn’s Tidos Ghost Protocol and RBCC and BP the same owner’s Tidos Mission Insanity.
In the Eukanuba Champion Stakes, Shelda Hornby’s Ch Bramerita Mr Holmes was 3rd out of 28.
Over in Ireland: at Lough Foyle Canine Association Open Show, Wilma McDevitt’s Keenaughts Only Tom took BOB and BPIB in smooths, and the same owner’s Leri’s Gang Cocoon At Keenaughts took BOB and BPIB in longs, judged by Alan McWhirter (Aidanat). At Cork All Breed Championship Show, the incorrect results for Longs were shown on the results website so correct results are as follows: Green Star Dog and RBOB Francine Kelly’s Yorone Press Call For Frapachi, Res Green Star Dog E Bincy’s Westvale If The Shoe Fits, Green Star Bitch and BOB Mary Goode’s Bramvers Canoness By Tampico, Res Green Star Bitch Martin O’Sullivan’s Lestatt All About Eve.
At the open shows: York – Michelle Emmerson’s Ismirelle’s Born To Shine BPIB and Breeze Hilton’s Ismirelle’s The Mad Hatter was BOB. At Carluke Rachael Stirzaker’s Ameliachi Making Memories JW was BOB (smooths), judged by Saoirse McKenna (Cantico). At Ripon the same dog took BOB judged by John Greeen (Ellochi), and also BOB and G2 at Honley Agricultural Show.
Good luck to all travelling to Scotland for Border Union this weekend. I don’t have entry figures to hand but the entries for East of England are Longs 82/90 and Smooths 91/97.
Last week I asked about what brings you all luck in the show ring. I had some great responses! These include: getting the dogs blessed by parish priest, a lucky green show lead, a lucky ring clip, a lucky necklace, a lucky bag and a lucky colour. I like the idea of getting the dogs blessed. Many years ago my local church put on a pet service. I took along one of my Yorkies to have her blessed. She lived to 18 years old and was as healthy as they came! I’ve been on at my local vicar to put on another pet service for the last two years (think ‘Vicar of Dibley’) and still nagging! I’ll let you know how I get on.
There has been a post doing the rounds on social media about Canine Herpes in Scotland and some concern for those going to Border Union. I believe it is a litter of puppies from an unvaccinated dam and 20 miles away from the area of the show.
Don’t forget to send me all your news through for next week’s notes. My challenge to you this week is to tell me your funniest Chihuahua stories. All entries on a postcard please (well, facebook/email/morse code). Have a great weekend showing, and safe journeys all.
