Chihuahua Breed Notes 20 February 2018
Well hello my fellow Chihuahua slaves! How are we all this week? It’s been a very busy weekend on the showing front; results to follow shortly. Crufts is 3 weeks away so will dominate the next few weeks of breed notes. Entries for Longs are 234 dogs making 249 entries and Smooths are 181 dogs making 192 entries. Now, if you’re showing Longs, don’t forget that we have an early start – 8am. Smooths start at 9am. There will likely be some bleary eyes so get yourself a coffee and settle in! Don’t forget your flight socks and slippers, and of course the right dogs (I do know of someone who brought the wrong dog to a show!).
Last Sunday was the Longcoat Chihuahua Club open show, judged by Scott Fleming. BIS was Lee Humphrey’s Amarantos Tobin, RBIS and BVIS was Colin Craggs’ Ch Reynoldco Ophelia, BPIS was my own Ellochi Crazy Nights For Pappersley, RBIS Sandra Stangoe’s Zoya’s Kingdom Fifth Element With Stanghurst and RBVIS Rosie Clarke’s Karcasam Dante At Oxsirius. Huge well done to Lee as Tobin went BIS and Midland Chihuahua Club as well. Colin was most surprised to win BB out of Veteran but the old girl still has it! Mum and I were over the moon with our win, even if Isaac was oblivious and spent most of the day flat on his back fast asleep in the show trolley. As usual, it was superbly run by the committee and a lovely relaxed atmosphere.
In other news, at Ashton Under Lyme and District, Nicki Wilkes’ Lukarra Glimpse of Gold went BOB, BPIB and PG2. At Lanark Ben Joiner’s Dacatelo Choose Life (Begbie) went BOB under Rose Lov. Begbie also took BOB and G2 at Coatbridge and Airdrie the weekend before. At Jarrow and Hebburn, in Longs Michelle Emmerson’s Ismirelle’s Love Heart (Roxy) took BOB under Nicki Wilkes and then G2. In Smooths Serena Hunt’s Zoya’s Kingdom Never Fails For Moltobello went BOB. At Lancaster Leah Todd-McCoid’s Tinasjoy Georgia With Rubyanlo went BOB. At Matlock and District Sharon Webber’s Dotty took BOB under Wendy Myojo. At Cleveland Wendy Turnbull’s Somergemz Warrior Princess At Hurascalexi (Xena) took BPIB. At Llynfi Valley Gemma and Kevin Calvert’s Somergemz Artic Force (Thor), sporting his new, trimmer look, went BOB under Michelle Byrne. My word, we have been busy bees! Well done to all of you.
Some sad news I’m afraid, I’ve heard that Mal Hilton of Valenchino Chihuahuas has passed away. Thoughts and prayers are with his family.
We’re well and truly on countdown to Crufts here. It’s a show I just love; the atmosphere is electric, and the Chihuahua rings are very popular with the public, so do keep an close eye on your littlies. I know it’s very crowded and some people hate it, but for me it’s the highlight of the year. Being a bit on the OCD side, it becomes like military manoeuvres in my house. My sister (very rarely seen at dog shows as, whilst she loves dogs, finds dog shows about as interesting as toilet paper), always comes to Crufts and is arriving in the Midlands from Surrey two days early so she can receive her full briefing. If you see her there, rolling her eyes at me, tell her you like her handbag/hair/shoes. She likes that. It’ll take her mind off deciding what to break in my house when she gets home.
My Crufts tip this week is that if you take a flask of coffee like me, and you run out, pop along to whatever dog food company’s breeder scheme you are signed up to. If you aren’t in one, join one. It’s worth it for the free coffee. That’s where you’ll find me when my flask is empty.
In the meantime, keep your news rolling in. I pick a lot up from facebook but I have been known to miss things (shocking, I know). Have a super week with your little Mexican friends!
