Chihuahua Breed Notes 01/11/18
Apologies for the lack of breed notes in Chihuahua Town for the last week or so; with the run up to half term, a litter of puppies and shows galore it has been a busy time here!
A few things I need to tell you about; K9 News is currently taking booking for their 2018 annual. This is to be a limited edition collectors publication, the cost is £90 for a single page advert or £150 for a double page. You can provide your own artwork or they will do it for you free of charge. The address to contact if you want to take up this offer is K9 News Ltd, C/O 78 Hurst Road, Longford, Coventry, West Midlands, CV6 6EJ or visit the K9 News stand at a show.
The British Chihuahua Club are taking ad bookings for the year book. Prices are £65 for the first page and £60 for every subsequent page, £30 for a black and white page. Entry on the Affix List is £2 (free if you take out an advert). Contact Bernard Coxhead.
There will also be Chihuahua Christmas cards for sale at The British Chihuahua Club champ show, designed by Joe Borges (Bellyss). I always buy a few packs and they’re well worth it!
I have been dealing with an influx of enquiries for puppies from what have turned out to be less than reputable breeders. I’m more than happy to share details and names if you contact me privately. Some have been more obvious than others, and some have required a bit of digging to get to the bottom of it. It would appear a core of these breeders are trying to get hold of puppies from show lines, I assume in order to sell their offspring as being from ‘show lines’ and therefore achieve higher prices for them. Something to watch out for.

The 21st October was the Longcoat Chihuahua Club Champ show at Sketchley Grange. It’s a lovely venue, but I did find it very warm in there and I heard one or two people mention the lack of space. Some great shopping opportunities – I always like to get my calendar at this show and some lovely things to buy courtesy of Mairi Austin manning the LCCC stall. Dogs were judged by Aimee Davies; DCC was Marie Thorpe’s Ir Ch Idyllium’s Showman, RDCC Lee Humphrey’s Amarantos Tobin, both from the Open Class, BPD Carol Conquest’s Chihohit Favourite Apollon At Storyland, RBPD Pat Jones’ Flickan Frost and BVD Julie Sparrow’s Ch Casarow Squadron Leader.

BIS was Legion Melina, RBIS Showman, BPIS Favourite Apollon, RBPIS Would It Be Magic, BVIS Squadron Leader and RBVIS Ophelia. BIS was judged by Tony Delve.
Then last weekend was Midland Counties Champ show. Longs were judged by David Guy; DCC was Marie Thorpe’s Ir Ch Idyllium’s Showman, RDCC Lynn Hargreaves Th Ch Winchi’s Noah Anou, (both from the Open class), BCC and BOB Sharon Robson’s Rushwarden’s Ultraviolet Of Tidos from the Limit class, RBCC the same owner’s Ch Go My Way JP’s Black Cherry (Imp Jap) from the Open class and BP Jim Culverhouse’s Lykath’s Peep Bo.
Smooths were judged by Nicolas Alarion. There were no tickets and they were in the ring after 3 other breeds. I understand that judging of the smooths didn’t finish until 7pm and held up the toy group judging. This made for a very long day for exhibitors and dogs (one does wonder how the dogs are supposed to show at their best having spent so long hanging around) and this is certainly something the committee need to consider for the future if they want exhibitors to continue to enter. BD and BOB was Diane Fothergill’s Diamonchi Mister Moon JW, RBD and BP J Ginger and D Parkinson’s Jodeschi Incoming Blizzard, BB D Norton’s Krassel Euphoria Blossom, RBB J Hobbs’ Lilliputchi Diamond Noir.
News from the Irish shows: 29 October was Bull Breeds All Breed Championship Show. Longs were judged by Mr S White, GSD and BOB was Marie Thorpe’s Ir Ch Idyllium’s Showman, RGSD Sharon Baker’s Ch UK/INT/POL/GER/CZECH Fabien Chidonna At Efterpi JW, GSB and RBOB Patrick and Wilma McDevitt’s Leri’s Gang Cocoon At Keenaughts (Imp ITA), RGSB Evangeline Clarke’s Ch Lestatt Dance Yourself Dizzy Jr Ch.
Bonfire night is almost upon us. I’m lucky in that none of my lot are bothered by all the noise of the fireworks, and are even quite happy to go out in the garden while they’re going off, but I know some of you have some that aren’t. If you have any tips for dealing with nervousness around fireworks, please let me know so that I can include next week! Unfortunately, these days it isn’t just one night, they seem to go on for weeks.
Please send me all your news – I’m a bit out of date with my Facebook stalking at the moment!!!
