Chihuahua Breed Notes 10/08/18
The hot weather has finally broken in Chihuahua Town. Whilst our little Mexican doggies are pretty much adept at dealing with the heat, I have found that my boy is not his usual showy self when it’s very hot, so at least he’s pleased it’s not as hot!
Quite a lot to report on show results this week:
Leeds Champ – a re-jig of the set up meant that we were moved to a different location this year. I can’t make my mind up whether I liked it or not! A bit quieter, but further from the stands, there seemed to be a little less ‘atmosphere’. Longs were judged by A Timberlake: DCC Jill Palmer and Willy Heap’s Ch Penapettit Platinum, RDCC Shelda Hornby’s Ch Bramerita Mr Holmes, BCC and BOB Dorothy Entwistle’s Dorentys Viva Vienna JW who later won the Toy Group, RBCC Steve Rooney’s Ch Donami Limelight, BPIB Tony Allcock’s Garnox Shortbread Kiss, BV Mairi Austin’s Ch Mairichis Blossom JW and BSpecBeg Paula Hunter’s Twiganlu Galaxy’s Guardian.
Smooths were judged by Sue Dykes: DCC, BPIB and BOB Diane Fothergill’s Diamonchi Mister Moon, RDCC Beverley Sutton’s Now Or Never De L’isle Au Vert Coteau Nikitos, BCC Diane’s Ch Diamonchi Moonlight JW Sh.CM, RBCC and BV Beverley’s Ch Lozek Rhapsody In Blue Nikitos, BSpecBeg Mrs D Norton’s Krassel Euphoria Blossom Valenchino (Imp).
This week was also Paignton Champ. Longs were judged by Nick Farrugia with an entry of 57 dogs making 58 entries. DCC Shelda Hornby’s Ch Bramerita Mr Holmes, RDCC Mr N Alarion’s Int Ch Legend Harry De L’isle Au Vert Coteau, BCC and BOB Amy Baranzeck’s Capevidle License To Thrill, RBCC Joan Waterworth’s Yorone Treading The Boards For Barwater, BPIB Jim Culverhouse’s Baby Boo Mano Efektas With Lykath (Imp). There was no BV or BSpecBeg.
Smooths were judged by Vanessa Williams Wgemann: DCC and BOB Darren Langford’s Boetandales James Bond, RDCC Jo Davies’ Noichi Red Roija At Chibull, BCC Jo’s Chibull Crystal Princess (Jo’s first CC and she was over the moon!), RBCC Miss J Suprinaityte’s Borjomi Beaware, BP Shelda Hornby’s Bramerita Prosecco Please and BSpecBeg Karen Hollister’s Voxel Ux November Rain Avec Hollichi. There was no BV.
At the open shows: at Leek and District Show in the smooths BOB was Lesley Taylor’s Wilachans Simply magic Mike At Arkoschi and RBOB/BPIB the same owner’s High Society Cheshire At Arkoschi, who then went on to get RBPIS! In the longs BOB was Dorothy Entwistle’s Dorentys Viva Vienna JW and RBOB Sharon Hughes’ Trefnanney Leo. At Upperward of Lanark Canine Society, Ben Joiner’s Begbie went BOB and G1. At Ryedale Rachael Stirzaker’s Nelson went BOB.
Don’t forget to send me your open show wins as I pick them up from facebook and if you’re not on my friends list, I don’t get them!
At the Irish Shows – Newtownards Champion Show Francine Kelly’s Ch Yorone Press Call for Frapachi got the Green Star and RBOB and the same owner’s Sweetpanache Stop’n Stare for Frapachi took the reserve Green Star. At the same show Brenda Part’s Silverchi Desiterata with Faurywings achieved her 7th and crowning Green Star and became a new Irish Champion, and I believe she has also achieved her Junior Champion title.
I reported on the North East Coast Chihuahua Club Open Show last week that Aldabech Tickled Pink went BPIS but I didn’t have details of her owner. Many thanks to Melanie Elliot for emailing with details; Tickled Pink was bred and is owned by Carole Hatfield, and is being handled in the ring by Melanie. I have a lovely photo of Melanie and Tickled Pink which will appear in a couple of week’s time.
Which brings me on to this week’s photo – Gemma Calvert winning a RCC with her Thor (Somergemz Artic Force). Many thanks to Gemma and Kevin for sending it to me; smiley faces all round!
A few updates for you on some of the breed clubs. Following the resignation of Geoffrey Curr, the Chihuahua Club of South Wales has appointed the following acting officers: secretary John Green, Treasurer Pat Lewis, Vice Chairman Mark Dover. They will hold those positions until the AGM in January. Good luck to them in their new roles.
The Smooth Coat Chihuahua Club also has a new acting secretary – Dianne Robinson.
Good luck to all travelling to Bournemouth champ how, I will be watching the results come in online. Longs have an entry of 70 dogs making 78 entries and smooths 83 dogs making 90 entries. Welsh Kennel Club is the week after with the following entries: longs – 86 dogs making 94 entries, smooths – 76 dogs making 82 entries. I’m noticing a decline in the long entries and an increase in the smooth entries. Good news for the smooths, answers on a postcard for the reasons why the longs are decreasing! I’ll continue to monitor over the coming months to see if I can spot a trend.
Don’t forget to send me your news and photos. More and more of you are getting in touch in one form or another – I’m really not that scary (well, maybe at school, and in a morning without makeup, but not at dog shows!).
See you all at WKC, safe journeys to you all.
