Chihuahua Breed Notes 10/09/18
It’s been a busy couple of weeks here, with a new litter of puppies arriving, then back to school. Between that and showing, I feel like I haven’t stopped!
Like many of you, I read the published critiques religiously. I was bemused to read one recently that stated in the preamble that they found an issue with mouths and they were concerned as they had read a critique by a championship judge stating that there was not a problem with mouths in the breed. I was bemused as I don’t remember reading any such critique. If anyone can shed any light on that I’d be really grateful as it’s irritating me! I know all the ones I’ve read either haven’t commented on mouths in the preamble or have commented that improvements are needed.
Also on the subject of critiques, I noted one from an open show recently that only critiqued the first place in each class – just a polite reminder that as of 1 January this year, judges are required to critique first and second place in each class at both champ and open shows.
Results from the champs are as follows:
First off is SKC, longs judged by Carolyn Roe: DCC Marie Thorpe’s Idyllium’s Showman, RDCC Dave Olive’s Oozora Bonaza Boy JW, BCC and BOB Dorothy Entwistle’s Dorenty’s Viva Vienna JW, RBCC Carol Conquest’s Kor Ch Neo Fabulous Captivation Of Storyland, BP Steve Rooney’s Sweet Melody Scavo At Yorone and BV James Sangster’s Tidos Christmas Gift, who then went VG2!
Smooths were judged by Lyndsey O’Neill (no CC’s): BD and BOB Carol and Aimee Davies’ Ch Dachida’s Johnnie Hot Rocks, RBD S Rushton’s Keenaughts Only Tom, BB Requena, Davies and Llamas’ Gibeltarik Bringing Down The House With Dachidas, RBB and BP Christine Fairburn’s Tidos Mission Insanity.
Next it was City of Birmingham, judged by B Claydon: DCC Lynn Hill’s Lynpix the Mexican with Becanna – Lynn’s first CC with this dog, and an extremely popular win. I read somewhere on social media that ‘surely no dog has been banging louder or more consistently on that door for a long time’ and I thought how true those words were. RDCC Tony Allcock’s Sandiman Last Tango in Paris Sleepyhollow JW, BCC and BOB Dorothy Entwistle’s Dorenty’s Viva Vienna JW; her 4th CC I believe. RBCC Joan Waterworth’s Yorone Treading The Boards For Barwater, BP Colin Craggs’ Reynoldco Sweet William, BV Mrs Swales’ Selaws Dream Climber and BJ Carol Conquest’s Ch Neo Fabulous Captivation At Storyland.
Smooths were judged by Mrs P Westlake: DCC and BOB Ms C Wells’ Pepeetolynn Obsidian At Dollybeau JW, RDCC and BP Diane Fothergill’s Diamonchi Mister Moon, BCC Mrs R Johnston’s Diamonchi Golden Melody At Jaffajems, RBCC Sandra Stangoe’s Stanghurst Strike A Pose and BV Janet Fraser’s Widogi Hippolyta. We were all thrilled to see Diane’s Mister Moon take PG1, then BPIS! A fantastic result for our breed and huge well done to Diane!
Finally it was Richmond, longs judged by Gordon Haran: DCC Nicholas Alarion’s Int Ch Legend Harry De Lisle Au Vert Coteau, RDCC Dave Olive’s Bonanza Boy, BCC and BOB Dorothy’s Viva Vienna, RBCC Steve Rooney’s Donami Limelight, BP the same owners Sweet Melody Scavo At Yorone, BV Mairi Auston’s Mairichis Blossom and BSpecBeg Pauline Wills’ Dorentys Dazzlin Duncan.

An agility result for you – Jessica Murray had a 3rd place with her chi Daisy at the International Agility Festival. The IAF is a bit like the Crufts of the agility world. I try to go with my Pap if I can, but couldn’t make it this year. It’s always worth a visit if you fancy a day out that’s a bit different to the conformation shows.
A request – Bernard Coxhead is looking for any Chihuahua Chronicles from 1994 to 2001 – if you can help, let him know.
This week’s photo of proud Chihuahua moments is Melanie Elliot with the puppy she is currently handling for owner/breeder Carole Hatfield, Aldabech Tickled Pink, who went BPIS at the North East Coast Chihuahua Club Open Show. Keep your photos coming folks!
Darlington is this coming weekend. Longs have an entry of 83/83 and smooths 85/86. The trend in longcoat entries is continuing in decline. When I get a moment I’m going to sit down and have a look at average entries year on year.
Have a great weekend showing folks!
