6th September 2018
As we move into the shooting season, things get busy for many exhibitors, especially those of us who both work and show our dogs. This weekend we did not have CC’s on offer, so I took the opportunity to go across to the German homeland of the breed to chase more VDH awards towards my dogs German titles. We also had some of the top field triallers in action at our GWP Club Open trial.
City of Birmingham (Championship Show) – Sunday 2nd September 2018
This show does not have CC’s on offer for our breed though legally docked GWP’s are permitted. Our breed judge for the day was Mrs Jill Peak who had an entry of 14 dogs, with 1 absent on the day, down 5 dogs on last year.

Reserve Best Bitch and Best Junior – Sh Ch Kimmax Koz I Kan – Owned by Mr P F & Mrs M McCullough
This 15 month old bitch has 3 CC’s, 2 with best of breed, including the 2018 GWP Club Championship Show. She currently leads the GWPC Top Bitches.

A third Best Puppy win for this 10 month old bitch.
Best Veteran – Kimmax Kayenta At Elagram – Owned by Mrs E, Mr G D & Miss A Turnbull
This 7 year old bitch has 1 CC.
No awards for the Best of Breed, Puppy or Veteran winners in the Groups but pleased to report that Sh Ch Kimmax Koz I Kan took 2nd Place in the Junior Group under judge, Mr Jeff Horswell. Kimmax Kayenta At Elagram also found time on the day to pass her Silver Good Citizens award.
Bremen International / Bremen National Show (Germany) – 1/2 September 2018
There were 2 Champ Show regulars missing from City of Birmingham – my own dogs, Connie and George. As many of you know, I like to show my GWP’s in their breed homeland, so I borrowed the dynamic duo for the weekend.driving a round trip of 1,450 miles from St Helens over to Bremen in Germany, stopping off at my friend Antonius Kohues (Vom Böckenhagen) in Münster on the way to give the duo a lovely break on his farm.
Bremen show is held in at the central Messe exhibition halls. They are light and airy, with huge car parks next to the halls, making it a popular venue – especially for Polish, Danish and Finnish visitors. As usual with European Shows, there were two shows back to back at the same venue – an International and a National.
I am pleased to report that Sh Ch Kimmax Kurious George flew the flag for the UK in the breed, winning the Best of Breed, CACIB (dog) and CAC (dog) at the International and Best of Breed and CAC (dog) at the National. He did well in both groups, making the final 5 shortlist in Group 7 on both days. Karin Voye (De) was the judge for the breed for the International and Group 7 judge for the National. Willi Güllix (De) judged the breed for the National and Group 7 for the International.
George’s litter sister, Sh Ch Kimmax Miss Kongeniality took Best Opposite Sex, CACIB (bitch) and CAC (bitch) at the International and Best Opposite Sex and CAC (bitch) at the National.
The 15 month old dog, Gesing’s Karlo, owned and handled by Annika Vivelstadt gained his Junior Champion Title at the show.
Thanks to Jane Heywood and her friend Ester, for handling Connie for me in the BoB challenge. Jane had a great 2 days with her talented UK bred GSP, NL Ch / Lux Ch / D Ch Pitwit Action Man who won Group 7 at the International and was 3rd at the National.
One disturbing aspect of the show which caused much discussion amongst exhibitors was the ‘secure ring’ for Staffordshire Bull Terriers (the breed is banned from import in Germany). The exhibitor area and ring was surrounded by a 6 ft high fence. This seemed a little extreme given that much larger similar breeds at the show (some of which are on the banned breed list in many countries) were in normal rings.
A Dogue De Bordeau went Best in Show at the International.
GWP Club Field Trials
The GWP Club ran its Open Field Trial on Grouse at Alston on Monday 3rd September. It was a difficult day for dogs and handlers with driving rain most of the day. Although the stock density was lower than normal (the grouse have seen a drastic reduction in some areas of the country) the Judges felt there was sufficient for the trial. The hosts laid on excellent hospitality at the beginning and end of the day.
Despite the conditions, a 1st Place was awarded to a GSP bitch, Stubblemere Evanasco handled by Mick Canham.
The next GWPC Field Trial is a Novice Stake on Saturday 6th October, near Goole.
Full details of all the GWPC trials are available in the events section of the GWPC website (https://gwpcuk.club)
