Happy New Year and welcome to the new home for my breed notes for the German Wirehaired Pointer community. We are keen to include all aspects of the breed, not just showing but working, agility, tracking and information of general interest to GWP owners.
The show season kicked off at Boston & District Championship Show. We do not have CC’s at this show, but docked dogs are permitted so the show attracted a good quality entry of 14 dogs (12 present) under judge, Mr Ian Halbert.
We had 4 classes with both sexes in each. Mixed sex breed classes of GWP’s at a Championship Show are rare, and with exhibitors new to showing (and a few, like me who should know better) a few people got confused about who was in the dog and bitch challenges. Fortunately, good humour prevailed and the steward and Ian patiently guided everyone through proceedings.
Best Dog and Best of Breed went to the junior dog, Bareve Boschkloof. Owned by Miss S Pinkerton, he has 1 CC to date, with BoB.
Best Bitch and Best Puppy both went to the puppy, Kimmax Koz I Kan.
Owned by Mr P F & Mrs M McCullough, this 8 month old girl was appearing at her first Championship show.
Reserve Best Dog was the young Open dog, Sh Ch Kimmax Kurious George. Owned by Mr P F & Mrs M McCullough, he has 7 CC’s to date, 3 with BoB. Reserve Best Bitch went to Sh Ch Bareve Barbara Grace (AI). Owned by Miss S Pinkerton, she has 4 CC’s to date, none with BoB.
The German Wirehaired Pointer Club (GWPC) also announced its ‘Top’ winners for 2017.
Top Dog Sh Ch Kimmax Kurious George
Owned and bred by Mr P F & Mrs M McCullough,‘George’ won 6 CC’s in 2017, 3 with BoB.
Top Bitch Kimmax Miss Kongeniality
Owned and bred by Mr P F & Mrs M McCullough, ‘Connie’ has 3 CC’s, all won whilst a Minor Puppy and was the GWPC Top Puppy in 2016.
Top Puppy Hushwing Louboutin to Doberway
Owned by Mrs J & Miss H Caffel & Kavanagh, and bred by Mr S Luxmoore & Mrs P Luxmoore-Ball this young lady has won numerous BP awards in 2017.
