Rain rain go away and come back another day!! We are all having our fair share of the rain, but our special thoughts go to those in the flooded areas where I am sure exercising dogs is proving very difficult.
Denise Garratt managed to get to Walsall and District Canine Society show at the weekend and won from a large not separately classified hound entry with her and Sharon Oakey’s Inchydoney Memories Oh My God with Caryna (Imp France) under Fred Ellingford and then Reserve Best in Show under John Purnell. Denise said she did not get home until 9pm, but clearly well worth the wait!! It was also lovely to see the critique done so quickly as well.
I went to Southern Germany at the weekend, judging French Bulldogs at a club show. The venue was ideal, with large level car park, super light and large halls which were clean, modern and warm. All rings were carpeted. In association with the Frenchie show there was a two day general CACIC show where both days had greyhounds classified. BOB on day one under judge Olaf Knauber was Fionn Clann Sanford (Fionn Clann Iconic to Estet Classic x Fionn Clann Radella and on day two under judge Ute Lennartz BOB was Royal Bunnycatcher’s Artemis. Artemis was also Rita Bartlett’s choice for Best in Show at the German Greyhound Annual Show when she judged there earlier this year. There was a bit of British greyhound interest at the show as one of Kay Vernons’ puppies, Artfakt Athletic Wonder was there being shown and giving a good account of himself in the ring by winning Junior BOB both days. Unlike European shows I have been to before there was no Best junior in Show which was a shame.
Adverts have been coming in nicely for the Greyhound Club magazine, the committee really do appreciate all the support that everyone is giving to support the magazine. If you have not yet had time to do an advert or write an article there is still just about time to get into Liz Millward or me by 20th November!
Lynda Race makes a plea on behalf of Nottingham University who are working with the Greyhound Club on various topics, for people to answer their on line survey regarding vaccinations – this is for all breeds not just greyhounds. There is a link to this on the Greyhound Club web site and facebook page, please take a minute to complete if you can.
A few entries are coming up near to closing date, first Boston, where there are classes scheduled for greyhounds without CCs and the judge is Diane Cook; these shut on 15 November on paper and 24th November on line. Manchester have greyhound classes with CCs and our judge here is Jeff Horswell – entries shut for this on 11th December. You may have seen that entries on now live for Crufts where our judge is Carla Molinari. This year we are on a Sunday so those who are going may well be able to bag a few bargains at the end of the show from the stalls!!
