I hope everyone had a lovely Easter break; I certainly appreciated the sun and enjoyed the opportunity to catch up with a bit of gardening with help of sorts from the greyhounds! Many of you took the opportunity to get out to some local shows – firstly South West Hound held one of their open shows on 22 April at Thornberry Leisure Centre where Naomi Cowley (Kiristan) was judging, she found her BOB and Best Puppy in Out of the Blue Ad Honores (Imp) Fra, owned by Claire Rishworth what a lovely win for one so young. Also at the show was a new exhibitor to the greyhound ring, with an imported bitch from the Below Hill kennel of the Czech Republic. A bit further north saw Humberside Hound Association hold their show and it was double glory for the greyhounds here. Rachel Wray was judging the greyhounds and she chose Elaine Newham’s Europa Decuma via Windspiel for BOB and then she went onto win BIS under Viv Phillips. To make this a more special win, she won BIS there last year too – congratulations to Bob and Elaine. Not to be outdone, Lady Penelope, Inchydoney Memories Oh My God with Caryna (Imp) won best Puppy in breed and then went onto win Reserve Best puppy in show, so happy faces all round! Meanwhile further north still, Kathy Spacey attended the Ross and Cromarty Open Show with ‘Mr Patapouf’, Inchdoney Memories North Star at Hallimans , continuing his winning ways with Best AVNSC and hound Group one under Mr Keith Nathan and then went onto win reserve BIS under Mrs M Mulholland. Away from the show ring, it is lovely seeing the progress Joy Batley has made after her major surgery, hope to see you back in the ring soon Joy. As many of you will be aware Barbara Hargreaves emigrated to the west coast of Canada at the tail end of last year. From the pictures she is sending she is really enjoying the country life there, as are the hounds. Today’s pictures from Barbara showed some most beautiful Sandhills Cranes in the field next to her house, magnificent birds. Entries shutting soon are Bath Canine Society where we have CCs back after many years, with Mary Pascoe judging – they shut on 6th May. Don’t forget your club entry either these close on 18th May. Lastly Reading Canine Society have put on greyhound classes, this is a premier open show held at the Newbury showground, a couple of days prior to Southern Counties, so ideal for anyone camping there. The judge there is Susan Rhodes (Shadowfax) . Safe travels and good luck to those attending WELKS at the weekend. I see the entry is well up on the last show with 22 entered (not counting Crufts of course!!)
