The weekend saw WELKS championship show take place in the glorious setting of the Malvern Hills. Despite a fairly cold start to the day it stayed dry and there was some welcome sunshine in the afternoon, which was a complete contrast to the day before when there were high winds taking down marquees put up for the forthcoming flower show! Our judge was CHRIS PASCOE, who was giving CCs for the first time. From his entry, (16 present) he chose for his DCC and BOB, CH/INT/NL CH WINDSPIEL NORTHERN SCRIBE FOR ALOUANN WW18, owned by Claire, Mia and Liz Millward and Lynda Race. This is Parkers 11th CC and Claire who showed him, had a fab day also gaining a 3rd place in the champion stakes. Bob and Elaine had an extra special day as they won the BCC, her all-important third and crowning CC to make up EUROPA DECUMA VIA WINDSPIEL. She is owned by Elaine Newsham and shown by Bob. She won her first under Pam Marston Pollock at GHC show, and her second at SWKA under Michael White. Reserve CCs went to INA’S FASHION DEDICATED TO BOUGHTON (IMP DEU), owned by Roisin Howlett, Ina Koulermou and Clare Boggia, and RBCC going to Jody Cutter and Haydn Lubins ZORADEN MY GIRL AT CHOSOVI. Jody and Haydn had a lovely day too as they were well placed (3rd) in the special beginners stakes under judge Mark Walshaw, winning some money for Maia’s piggy bank!! Sadly only one puppy present, but enjoying her day out and winning was ‘India’ OUT OF THE BLUE AD HONORES (IMP FRA), handled by Helen and owned by Claire Rishworth. Sadly no puppy group at WELKS. Lastly special beginners was won by Miss Bakewells AFFLECK BARNEY BESTEST BUD. It was lovely to see Jim and Brenda Rowe at ringside. For those new to the breed Brenda and Jim had a very successful kennel, Gaysyde, owning the breed record holder at the time. Meanwhile away up in Scotland, Kathy Spacey continued her winning ways with ‘Mr Patapouf’, Inchydoney Memories North Starr at Hallimans, winning Best AVNSC Hound and Hound Group 3 under Mrs D Montgomery at the LKA of Scotland. A lovely way to celebrate his second birthday! The entry for SKC is regrettably only 7 for our hound specialist judge Jill Peak. The entry all round there looks down.
