Last weekend saw one of the most anticipated shows on the calendar in the UK – UK Toy Dog Society. The judge was Mr Ernie Patterson, who drew an entry of 55 Havanese, with three absentees. The main winners were, Mrs S Clements Prince Timmy From Bohemica Land (IKC) Dog CC and Best of Breed. Miss H McCallum-Sealy’s Pandaprint Believe in Magic JW, Reserve CC. Bitch CC was awarded to Mrs J Day’s Cubadias Carribean Damsel Sh.CM, Reserve CC to Mrs V Dowty & Mrs J Connolly’s Los Perritos Lisbet Taylor of Clynymona. Best Puppy in Breed was awarded to Mrs S Moore’s Dianaia’s Perfect Day, who also owned the Best Veteran, Newtonwood Two Ta Tango Sh CM. Best Special Beginner was awarded to Mr M Charles Newtonwood A Touch of Class. Well done to all!
I wasn’t entered myself, as I have made a deal with my husband to be about more often at weekends this year. With Crufts and Celtic Winners in March, I agreed that they were quite enough shows for the moment. We also have puppies at the moment, so I will be spending a lot of time between Ireland and the UK over the next few weeks. I also have an exciting trip planned at the end of next month, so a busy time awaits me!
I see entries for the National have been extended until Thursday, so a last chance to enter, if you have not already done so. I have entered some up coming shows in the UK, as has my father with his setters, however with this Brexit turmoil, it’s hard to know if we will be able to attend these shows. We chose not titre test our dogs, pending the outcome of Brexit, however if the UK crash out without a deal next Friday, we may not be able to attend UK shows until 3 months after the results of the titre tests come back. We will have to wait and see what happens, but I for one am getting quite fed up with it all now and I’m sure I’m not the only one!
If you’re free on the 21st April and live near Dorset, there is a Coton and Havanese meetup taking place at Hengistbury Head, near Christchurch, Dorset at 1pm. I believe it is a lovely venue, lots of car parking, a café and dog friendly land and most importantly – a beach! Please contact Claire Hancock on Facebook for further details.
