It’s the last weekend before the WDS and it seems many exhibitors are getting in some practice before they make their journeys to Amsterdam. Indeed, it seems that many roads are already starting to lead to Amsterdam, with exhibitors making their way from the USA already! However before the big one, there has been lots happening closer to home!

On Sunday 5th December, Dun Laoghaire held their annual Championship Show. As we are attending the WDS later this week, we decided in the interest of the welfare of our dogs, that one show this weekend was quite enough, so sadly we were not in attendance. Out of her entry of 3, Mrs A Leonard Sloyan chose Peter Summersgill’s Prince Timmy from Bohemica Land as her Green Star Dog and Best of Breed Winner. Green Star Bitch and Reserve Best of Breed were awarded to Michael & Dolores Kane’s Christa’s Jumpy Clown Only For You. Reserve Green Star Dog was awarded to A Rutzel’ Am Ch Kolmar’s Painted Masterpiece.
In the UK, Paignton Championship Show took place on Tuesday 7th August. Mr K Bartlett was the judge for Havanese, and from his entry of 15, he selected his Best Male and Best of Breed from the Open Dog Class, Mr W & Mrs G Morris’ The Sandman. Best Opposite Sex was awarded to Mr W & Mrs G Morris’ Classy Cleo ShCM. Reserve Best Dog was awarded to A Am Ch Rutzel’s Kolmar’s Painted Masterpiece and Reserve Best Bitch to Mrs J Day’s Cubadias Caribbean Damsel.
So we all now can look forward to the biggest show of the year – the World Dog Show in Amsterdam! The Statistics are out, and for the Benelux Winner Show on Thursday, there is an entry of 35 Havanese. For the Speciality Show on Friday, there are 47 Havanese entered and for the World Show on Sunday, 81 Havanese. We began our journey yesterday, and stopped over in the UK last night. We are currently sitting in the Flexi Lounge at the Euro Tunnel – making use of the wifi and complimentary food (although with the cost of the ticket, one would have to wonder how ‘complimentary’ the food really is!) We will catch the next train and then will drive the four hours to our home for the next six days in Nieuwveen. Our hotel looks to be a very nice place, in the countryside with plenty of walks for the dogs. Full report in next weeks notes!
