A belated Happy New Year to all Havanese exhibitors and enthusiasts! I am absolutely thrilled to be writing the Havanese Breed Notes for K9 News, which I hope will include something for everyone. I hope to cover both the Irish and UK show scenes, and I also know that our exhibitors like to travel further afield, so let’s hope we have lots of great results to report from European Shows too.
The first championship show of the year was Boston in January, with Miss Leila Tarabad having the pleasure of judging three well subscribed classes of Havanese. Jenny Harper had a good day, winning Best Dog and Best of Breed with her young boy Skystar’s Sonny, Reserve Best Dog went to Nichola Westgate’s Wizzizz Desperado. In bitches, Hayley McCallum Sealy did well with her young homebred girl, Pandaprint’s Anastasia, picking up Best Bitch, with Mr P and Mrs R Noton winning Reserve Best Bitch, as well as Best Puppy in Breed with Parmanese Crazy About Her.
Next up was Manchester Championship Show, where breed specialist judge, Andrea Akkad, drew a fabulous entry of 50. Julie Fitzgerald had a great day with her girl Mybeard’s Valentina winning Best Bitch and Best of Breed. Reserve Best Bitch was awarded to Dilly Aspland’s Rothermere Bouncing Belle. In Dogs, Gaynor Morris picked up Best Dog with her homebred boy, The Sandman, and Jacqueline Young and Jenny Harper picking up Reserve Best Dog with their boy, Prairiwinds Dream Maker (Imp). Best Puppy on the day went to Lesa Miles homebred Adorele I’m the One. Well done to all in the cards!
Across the sea in Ireland, whilst the first Championship Show is not until Celtic Winner’s weekend in March, there are plenty of Open and Limit Shows taking place around the country. Havanese have been doing very well, with Olive Carty and Andrea Akkad’s young boy, Bailemos Poker Face, being placed 1st in Group 9 at the Rough Collie Club’s All Breed Open Show. The following week, B. Poker Face was placed 4th in Group 9 at the Bulldog Club’s All Breed Open Show. Finally, at the Chinese Crested Club’s All Breed Limit Show, Olivia Carty-Parge and Daniel Parge’s young boy, Flordecuba Jacinto Jr Ch, was placed Reserve Best Open in Show. Great to see our breed featuring in Group Placings!
Schedules are now available for the Havanese Club of GB Open Show in April, with Breed Specialist Diane McCallum (Dianaia) judging on the day. Schedules are available for download from the Club’s Facebook page, or alternatively from the Club’s website, https://www.havanese-club-gb.co.uk/open-shows
