It was a busy weekend here in Ireland, with two shows being held ‘up north’. Both Bangor & North
County Down and Banbridge Clubs held championship shows in a new venue – the Ulster Flying Club.
The venue was very nice indeed with ample space for tents, big rings and parking close to the rings.
The ground was also very nice under foot. I wasn’t present for the show on Saturday, Bangor, but I
believe that there was a last minute change of judge and a change to the order of judging. The
replacement judge was Ann Cuthbert, from Ireland. Ann had two Havanese present and awarded
Green Star Dog and Best of Breed to Peter Summersgill’s Prince Timmy of Bohemica Land. Green
Star Bitch was awarded to Michael and Dolores Kane’s Christa’s Jumpy Clown Only You. Next day
was Banbridge, the first show for this new committee, following the sudden passing of the club’s
former secretary Jonny Anderson, may he rest in peace. Our judge was Dr Yek, from Ireland. From
the seven dogs he had present, he awarded Green Star Bitch and Best of Breed to Dr A Akkad’s Pt Gr
Ch, Multi Ch, CIB Amazing Dance Shisuka (Esp) Multi Jr Ch. Reserve Best of Breed and Green Star Dog
was awarded to A Rutzel’s American Ch Kolmar’s Painted Masterpiece. Reserve Green Star Dog was
awarded to Peter Summersgill’s Prince Timmy of Bohemica Land. This is Amazing Dance Shisuka’s 7 th
Green Star, which gives her the Irish Championship Title (subject to IKC ratificuation). This is the 4 th
Havanese to gain their Irish Title this year.
In the UK, Richmond Dog Show took place on Friday 7 th September. The judge was Mr Harry Tast
from Finland, who had an entry of 17 Havanese. This judge who caused some discussion amongst
exhibitors, as he withheld on a number of placings. A practice that is not too common in the UK.
From his entry, he selected Mrs L Miles’ Adorele I’m The One as his Best Male and Best of Breed.
Best Opposite Sex was awarded to Mrs J Fitzgerald’s Immeleon Galactica for Beaugem. Reserve Best
Dog was awarded to Mrs J Harper’s Skystar’s Sonny and Reserve Best Bitch to Mrs L Miles’ Adorele A
Perfect World. Best Puppy was awarded to Mrs S A Joy’s Newtonwood Simply Red and Best Veteran
to Mrs J Day & Mrs T Crate’s Minniebell Endless Love in Cubadias. Best Special Beginner was
awarded to Mr P Grocock’s Havanamour Moonbeam over Havalag.
This coming weekend sees Carlow Championship Show take place in Ireland. The judge for Havanese
is Siobhan Minogue, Ireland, who drew an entry of 4 dogs and 4 bitches. In the UK, Darlington takes
place in Ripon Racecourse. We have tickets at this show and our judge is this year’s Crufts BIS Judge,
Mrs Jill Peake. There are 49 havanese making an entry of 53. Havanese are first in ring 18 and
judging starts at 9 o’clock.
Good luck to all showing over the weekend.
