Well the world didn’t stop turning whilst the WDS was taking place. Back in the UK, Bournemouth Championship Show took place over the same weekend. The judge for Havanese was Mr S R Goodwin. He had an entry of 22 Havanese. From his entry, he selected Mr J Ashwood’s Ch Silviesol Priscilla as his Best Bitch and Best of Breed Winner. Best Opposite Sex was awarded to Mrs & Miss Jefford’s Lekkerbisken’s Entertainer for Wizzizz (Imp). Reserve Best Dog was awarded to Mr W & Mrs G Morris’s The Sandman. Reserve Best Bitch was awarded to Mrs J Fitzgerald’s Immeleon Galactica for Beaugem, who was also awarded Best Puppy in Breed. Best Special Beginner was awarded to Mr P Grocock’s Havanamour Moonbeam over Havalag. Later on that day, Mr Ashwood’s girl was awarded fourth spot in the Group under Mr C Sparrow. Well done to all the winners!
In Ireland, Coleraine Championship Show took place. The judge on the day was Mrs A McNally. Mrs McNally awarded Green Star Dog and Best of Breed to Peter Summersgill’s boy, Prince Timmy of Bohemica Land. She then awarded this boy second place in the group! Congratulations Peter and Timmy!
This is the second Havanese to be placed in a group at an all breeds championship show in a month, as Multi Ch Amazing Dance Shisuka, was awarded third place at Irish Ladies. This is very positive for the breed and demonstrates the quality of the breed here in Ireland. It’s great to see the breed being recognised in Groups and I do believe over the past five years or so, the breed has gotten much stronger in Ireland. I think the results of Irish owned Havanese abroad really prove this. So well done everyone! I’m sure Irish owned Havanese will continue to go from strength to strength.
The Friday following the World Dog Show saw Welsh Kennel Club Championship Show take place in Builth Wells, South Wales. As our gang were shown at the three shows in Amsterdam, we missed out on our annual trip to Builth Wells, sadly, as we believed it would be too much on our dogs (and owners!) to travel to Wales so soon after the WDS. Mr Epson Engh from Norway was the judge for the day, and he drew an entry of 37 Havanese. From his entry, he selected Mr J Ashwood’s Ch Silviesol Priscilla as his Best of Breed and Bitch CC Winner. Dog CC was awarded to Mrs & Miss Jefford’s Lekkerbisken’s Entertainer for Wizzizz (Imp). Reserve Dog CC was awarded to Miss H McCallum Sealy’s Pandaprint’s Believe in Magic, who was also awarded Best Puppy in Breed and Reserve Bitch CC was awarded to Mrs L Miles Adorele A Perfect World. Best Veteran in Breed was awarded to Mrs J Day’s & Mrs T Crate’s Minniebell Endless Love in Cubadias, who was also awarded third place in the Veteran Group under Mrs G C Chapman. Big congratulations to you all!
The circuit is also now in full swing, Clonmel took place on Saturday and Killarney is taking place today. I decided it best to perhaps wait until after the Circuit has finished, to give a full report.
The judges are a mixture of Irish and International judges, with Judges for Clonmel and Killarney hailing from Costa Rico. The Judge from Limerick is from Lithuania and we have an Irish judge for Tralee. With such a diverse judging panel, I’m sure exhibitors will receive a range of judgements throughout the week. Because of the amount of leave I had taken for the WDS, and early in the year for Georgie’s puppies, I am very limited in days I can take off this year. So I will only be attending the two weekend shows, Clonmel and Tralee. I wish all exhibitors the very best of luck for the week, stay safe on the roads and most importantly – have fun!
