What a busy couple of weeks it has been! I had the pleasure of judging the special awards classes at the Havanese Club of GB’s Open Show on the 8th April. It was so nice to see everyone and of course to judge your beautiful Havanese. I consider it a great honour to be given the privilege to go over your beautiful dogs and I and a lot of very difficult decisions – it wasn’t easy to separate some of my placings. I do appreciate the gracious way that each of you accepted my decisions and also the lovely friendly atmosphere. I will, of course, submit my critiques in due course.
The judge for the Breed Classes was Diane McCallum (Dianaia). From her entries, Best Dog was awarded to Mrs M.A, Thackery’s Mandafield look at Me at Tiggafield, who went on to win Reserve Best in Show, Reserve Best Dog was awarded to Mr P & Mrs C Muscroft’s Newtonwood Yours Truly. Best Puppy Dog was awarded to Mr P. Grockock’s Habanas Bonite Te Quiero, who was also awarded Reserve Best Puppy in Show and Best Veteran Dog to Mr P. Grockock’s Aust Ch Carnwath Coolnagatta Gold for Havalag, who was also Reserve Best Veteran in Show.

Well done to everyone who took part, it was a really enjoyable experience for me.
It was a truly lovely day, with an excellent atmosphere. The committee must be commended in putting on such a lovely show and special mention must go to the delicious cake Sheila Lane baked for Janet Wootton’s birthday.
Over the weekend in Ireland, we had the Portadown Championship Show. I think I speak for most exhibitors when I say that the show was a huge success, lots of space for all exhibitors and a fantastic atmosphere. It was a lovely, relaxing and laid back day. I had an easy day myself, as I left two of mine at home. What a pleasure it was the night before to be able to go to bed early, and not having to be up all night blow-drying an army of havanese! Our judge on the day was Heather Cox, and from her entry she awarded Green Star Dog and Best of Breed to Dr A Akkad’s and Mrs O Carty’s Bailemos Poker Face, Reserve Green Star Dog and Reserve Best of Breed was awarded to Mr P Summersgill’s Prince Timmy From Bohemica Land. We had a lovely day around the ring, it was really nice to chat with fellow exhibitors and enjoy our dogs. Well done to the Committee of Portadown Club for organising a truly great day!
