Again, it’s been a bit quiet of late, although perhaps it’s not a bad thing, given the madness is due to kick off again in March. I see Nicola Westgate had a nice day at Maiden head & District Open Show. There were no Havanese classes, however her boy Wizzizz When I Need You was placed first in AVNSC Toy Post Graduate Dog and Wizzizz Desperado was placed second in AVNSC Toy Open Dog. Well done Nicola, Harley and Bailey!
I have heard that there was a meet up of Coton and Havanese owners in the South of England – Hengistbury Head. The sun didn’t come out as forecast however everyone warmed up with hot chocolate in the café afterwards. I believe Claire Hancock is planning an Easter meet up and all Cotons and Havanese are more than welcome to attend. As soon as I have the details, I will share them here.
The schedules are now available for the Havanese Club of GB Open Show, which will take place on Sunday 21st April 2019 at Nether Whitacre Village Hall, Whitacre Heath, Coleshill, Warwickshire B46 2EH. The breed judge is Mr Robert Hitchcock and Special Awards Classes will be judged by Mr Stephen Randle Goodwin. Entries close on 23rd March and the schedule can be downloaded here https://www.havanese-club-gb.co.uk/open-shows
With the break in showing, I have been trying to stay on top of the grooming and recently ordered some new products from Botaniqa. I have seen many Havanese and Coton Folk in Eastern Europe using these products and their dogs always look great, so I decided to give them a try. I find that usually different products suit different dogs, however all four of mine seemed to do really well with Botaniqa. The shampoo and conditioner does not weigh the coat down, which is great for Havanese, as they should not have dropped coats hanging like drapes down to the ground. The coats were really light and airy after blowdrying them and they all had a nice shine. After a few days, the coats stayed very manageable and easy to comb. I think I’m on to something here! I will continue to use these products and will report back on how they coats are getting on, after a few weeks.
