There seems to have been a bit more going on around Ireland and the UK this weekend. At Newark Open Show, Margaret Thackery’s boy Tiggerfield All that Jazz won Best Puppy in Breed and then Puppy Group One. Kimberly Smith’s homebred girl won 1st in Junior Bitch and Susan Tarff’s boy Cuba was awarded R BOB. I am still waiting to learn of the BOB winner but as soon as I have that information, I shall update these notes.
Susanna Thorne had a busy weekend showing at Caernarfon and District Canine Society on Saturday. Her bitch Tilly was awarded 1st Open Bitch, Best of Breed and 1st in the Toy Group under judge Liz Sharkey. Then on Sunday at Blackpool and Fylde Toy Dog Show, Tilly was awarded 1st in Junior and Best of Breed. She also showed her boy Lee and girl Sassy, and they each won their classes. Well done on a great weekend Susanna.
Here in Ireland on Saturday, the Irish Toy & Companion Club held their Group Open Show. I did a very silly thing and assumed that all shows were on Sunday, so you can imagine my surprise to read how folks had done at the Toy Show on Facebook! Never mind. I believe congratulations are in order for Michael Kane and his girl Rapunzel, who won Best Puppy in Breed and 4th in the Puppy Stakes.
On Sunday, the IGDC held a fundraiser show. I had managed to get at least that date right and showed our girl Starla. We did very well being awarded Best of Breed and Second in the Group. Well done Ashling Connolly and her Bichon on winning Group 1 and RBIS.
Those shows were the last shows now until Crufts and after that, we are into championship show season, with championship shows taking place nearly every week. I have committed to a few trips abroad and have bought tickets to concerts so will not be in attendance of quite a few shows. However we tend not to overshow our dogs anyway, I don’t believe in ‘flogging our champions’ and blocking others, so whilst I will have some fun with our young Starla, I won’t be running all around the country either. There are some international judges coming up, however, whose opinions would be interesting.
