Sincere apologies with the lack of notes over the past few weeks – I’ve had quite a busy time with puppy visits, work, dog shows with our setters and social events. Although I have missed quite a lot of shows with our havanese, I have been keeping note of the results. Hopefully things will become a bit more regular now going forward.
So to catch up, the Mid West held their annual show on 6th April 2019. I wasn’t there myself, as my father and I were attending the English Setter Society of Wales Club Show with our two boys. Rita McCarry Beattie was the Havanese judge and the main winners were Green Star Bitch and Reserve Best of Breed, Ms A Murray’s Rathcloon Steadfast Miss Lucy. Reserve Green Star Bitch was awarded to Ms V & Mrs J Dowty & Connolly’s Los Perritos Lisabet Taylor. Green Star Dog and Best of Breed was awarded to Mrs J, Mrs K & Ms V Connolly, Loveless & Dowty’s Multi Ch Arben’s Epic Swagg of Los Perritos, who was subsequently awarded 1st in the Group by Mr M Forte and Best in Show by the breed judges husband, Mr C Beattie. Reserve Green Star Dog was awarded to Ms K Malone’s Rathcloon Jovial Sir John.
Next up was the Easter Shows here in Ireland. I only attended the first show myself, as the weather was so nice, it was a shame to waste it sitting inside in a hall all day. We arrived later than we usually would on the Saturday, and were delighted to get a nice spot beside our ring – no need for queuing to get in at silly o’clock. The judge for the day was a Lithuanian Bull Terrier lady, Ms. R. Kazlauskaite. From her entry she awarded Green Star Bitch, CACIB and Reserve Best of Breed to Dr A & Mrs O Akkad & Carty’s Ch Georgie Girl by Labayamesa Jr Ch An Ch ’15 CW ’15 & ’19. Reserve Green Star Bitch was awarded to Mrs O & Mr D Parge & Carty-Parge’s Flordecuba Amarillo Star. Green Star Dog, CACIB and Best of Breed was awarded to Mrs J, Mrs K & Ms V Connolly, Loveless & Dowty’s Multi Ch Arben’s Epic Swagg of Los Perritos and Reserve Green Star Dog and Res CACIB was awarded to Mrs O & Mr D Parge & Carty-Parge’s Ch Flordecuba Jacinto Jr Ch. Best Puppy in Breed was awarded to Michael and Dolores Kane’s Mournemount The Fairy Princess.
On Day 2 judge Mr C. Jouanchicot awarded Green Star Bitch and Reserve Best of Breed to Ms V & Mrs J Dowty & Connolly’s Los Perritos Lisabet Taylor. Reserve Green Star Bitch was awarded to Michael and Dolores Kane’s Mournemount The Fairy Princess. Green Star Dog and Best of Breed was awarded to Mrs J, Mrs K & Ms V Connolly, Loveless & Dowty’s Multi Ch Arben’s Epic Swagg of Los Perritos.
Over in the UK on the 21st April, Mr R Hitchcock judged the Havanese Club of GB’s Club Open Show. He awareded Best in Show to Mrs D McCallum’s Dianaia Fabulous Forever, Best Opposite Sex and Reserve Best in Show was awarded to Catherine Muscroft’s Janabear One Alone. Best Puppy in Show was awarded to Mrs Bunting’s Mypons Waltzing Matilda and Best Veteran in Show was awarded to Mrs Bunting’s Myhav Iz Peach Blossom.
Finally, over the weekend just gone WELKS took place in the UK. The judge was Breed Specialist, Miss H McCallum Sealy. My dad was in the ring next door with the English Setters and he did enjoy catching up with some of you at the show.
Numbers have been released for the next two UK Shows on the calendar, the National and SKC. There are 54 havanese entered for the National on 9th May. Havanese will be first in ring 11 beside the best in show ring and the judge is Mrs S Smith. SKC will take place on 19th May and judge, Mr T Mather, will have 45 Havanese, making an entry of 53. We haven’t yet been advised of the order of judging, but I will be sure to note it here when it’s published.
This weekend coming is a bank holiday here in Ireland, so there are two shows in the calendar. On Saturday 4th May, South Tipperary holds their show in Holycross and the judge is Mrs Jean McErlane from New Zealand. On Sunday 5th May, Fermoy holds their International Show in Clonmel and the judge is Wendy Van Oostan from the Netherlands. Ms Van Oostan is no stranger to Ireland, as she has showed here on past occasions and has also bred some Northern Irish owned Chinese Cresteds. Entry numbers have not been published as of yet, I suspect they will be over the coming days. I myself am not entered for these shows and will look forward to spending the forecasted nice weather at home.
