Although there is a great buzz and excitement surrounding the up and coming World Dog Show in Amsterdam, there have been lots going on closer to home over the past weekend.
In the UK, Sheila Martin’s Baillie has proven that he is more than just a handsome face, by winning the Progression Cup for Most Promising Dog in Class at his Obedience Class! Big congratulations Sheila and Baillie!

Reserve Best Dog was awarded to Mr M & Mrs L Barber’s Tynebears Joe the Rogue. At Dorset County Canine Society Open Show on the 29th July, Mrs L Mile’s Adorele I’m the One was awarded Best of Breed under Judge Susanna Thorne, and was then placed 1st in the Toy Group under A. J. Aylett. Congratulations on a great day!
On 25th July, Mr A Carter & Ms H McCallum-Sealy’s Pandaprint Better Together was awarded Reserve Best of Breed and Best Puppy in Breed and 1st in the Toy Puppy Group under Judge Vanessa Wegmann. I don’t have details on the BOB winner, sadly, but if anyone could let me know the details, I’ll be sure to report on it in the next Breed Notes.
In Ireland, at the Munster Agricultural Show on Saturday, Mrs E Gonzales from Gibraltar judged an entry of two Havanese. She awarded Green Star Dog, Best of Breed and Group 3 to A Rutzel’s Am Ch Kolmar’s Painted Masterpiece and Reserve Green Star Dog and Reserve Best of Breed to Peter Summersgill’s Prince Timmy from Bohemica Land. The Irish Toy Dog Club also held their show on the same day. The judge was Group 9 Specialist, Ms Flo Fahey, who awarded Green Star Dog and Best of Breed to Peter Summersgill’s Prince Tommy of Bohemica Land. Reserve Green Star and Reserve Best of Breed was awarded to A Rutzel’s Am Ch Kolmar’s Painted Masterpiece. Well done to all.
If there are any Havanese owners living in the Dorset, the Coton De Tulear Breeders and Owners Club are organising a Coton Meet Up and have invited Havanese owners to join in the fun. The venue for the meet up is Hengistbury Head near Chirstchurch, Dorset. There are lots of car parking, a café, a dog friendly land train, a nature reserve and of course, a lovely beach. The postcode for the Hikers Café is BH6 4EN. The car park is £4 for 2 hours, £5 for 3 hours and £6 for 4 hours. The plan is to meet between the car park and Hiker Café at 1 pm and everyone is welcome!
Next up on the calendar in the UK is Paington Championship Show on Tuesday 7th August. Havanese are third in ring 11 after 28 Griffon Bruxellois and 24 English Toy Terriers. The judge is Mr K Bartlett, who will judge 24 dogs making up an entry of 28.
In Ireland, Newtownards Championship Show takes place on Saturday 5th August. The judge is Mr A Easdon, of the famous Yakee Pekingese Kennels in the UK. This week there is an entry of 6 Havanese. Although no official order of judging has been printed to date, Mr Easdon has a number of breeds to judge in other groups before his group 9 breeds, so perhaps the order of judging will be as per the schedule. Let’s hope it’s a nice day, it can be quite windy at Newtownards, so be sure to take a jacket along, just in case!
After that then, will be the World Dog Show, how exciting!
