Happy Halloween to you all – where has this year gone? The show scene is now winding down, with only two championship shows now left in Ireland, Cloghran in November and Dublin Dog Show Society in December. In the UK, LKA is the final championship show of the year in December. I for one am looking forward to the break and will relish my lie in’s! As my mother is judging at Cloghran, I will not be exhibiting my Havanese. Although my Havanese are not in my mother’s ownership, I still feel that is the ethical thing to do – it does not look right for one family member to be judging in one ring, whilst another is exhibiting in the next ring. I understand many people do so, but it’s not something that I personally would consider doing. I also will be giving the Dublin Dog Show a miss this year. I very much wish to enjoy my time off over Christmas and do not fancy spending my St. Stephen’s day bathing dogs. So I would like to take the opportunity to wish the other Havanese exhibitors the very best of luck at the remaining shows and I will see you all in 2019!
In the UK, Midland Counties took place over the past weekend, with Havanese being judged on Sunday, after a long wait, I believe. The judge was Mr Kevin Young, and from his large entry he selected Mrs M A Thackery’s Mantafield Look at Me at Tiggafield as his Best Dog Winner and Reserve Best Dog was Miss S Moore’s Dianaia’s Perfect Day. Mr D R Mrs S Lane’s Starleisha Heavenly Secret ShCM was awarded Best Bitch and Best of Breed and Reserve Best Bitch was awarded to Mr & Mrs W Morris’ Classy Cleo ShCM. Best Puppy in Breed was awarded to Mrs S L Thorne’s Dyffrynsands Tilly Tinker. Huge congratulations to you all!
In Ireland, we had Bullbreeds Championship Show on our Bank Holiday Monday. The judge was Ms S White. From her entry she awarded Green Star Dog and Reserve Best of Breed to Dr A Akkad & Mrs O Carty’s Bailemos Poker Face (Neth) Jr Ch CW 18 CJW 18 BJWNL 18. Reserve Green Star was awarded to A Rutzel’s American Ch Kolmar’s Painted Masterpiece. Green Star Bitch and Best of Breed was awarded to Mrs V and Mrs J Dowty & Connolly’s Los Perritos Lisbeth Taylor at Clynymona and Reserve Green Star Bitch was awarded to Michael and Dolores Kane’s Christa’s Jumpy Clown Only You. This win now means that Dr A Akkad & Mrs O Carty’s Bailemos Poker Face (Neth) Jr Ch CW 18 CJW 18 BJWNL 18 is now an Irish Champion, subject to IKC ratification. This makes B. Poker Face the fifth champion in the breed this year!
There are a few open shows coming up, both in Ireland and the UK, so hopefully I should be able to report on those shows. Meanwhile, I am planning on having a few glasses of wine in front of the TV on Friday night, a lie on both Saturday and Sunday morning and walks around Oldbridge with the gang over the weekend. I hope everyone has a lovely weekend and enjoys the break.
