A portrait of 2017 Crufts Best in Show winner, American Cocker Spaniel Sh Ch Afterglow Miami Ink, has been incorporated into the Kennel Club Art Collection at the headquarters in London.
The painting, which is by artist Anne Zoutsos from Surrey, was formally presented to Crufts Chairman, Tom Mather following its initial unveiling in the main ring at Crufts 2018. It is now available for the public to view within the Kennel Club art gallery on Clarges Street, upon appointment.
Speaking about the work, Anne said: “When I approached the painting of Miami I was faced with a dog with very striking markings and so felt a detailed background, such as I had painted for the previous year’s winner, Devon, would make the painting too busy. Miami is bred and owned by the Afterglow Kennels and so I thought it would be nice to incorporate this name into the painting.
“In the photographs I used as reference, Miami’s coat was groomed out and hung completely straight and although I wanted to maintain the show coat for the portrait, I decided to add some movement to it to add interest. Therefore, I decided to paint him outside and so the final painting emerged, with the setting sun, the afterglow, shining through the shrubbery and Miami’s coat being gently ruffled in the breeze.”
Anne Zoutsos, comes from a family of talented artists and is a full-time artist herself, having painted professionally for 30 years. Anne’s work, including paintings of wild animals and dog portraiture, can be found in collections all over the world.
The owners of Sh Ch Afterglow Miami Ink, Jason Lynn and Rui Jorge da Silva have been gifted a limited edition print of the work.
