Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever
26th February 2018
Firstly, I must start by congratulating Caroline Morgan and Rowan, Erikachen O’Ruadh For Deltandamba JW ShCM, for winning Best In Show at Ilfracombe & District Canine Society Open Show on Saturday 17th February 2018, an absolutely fantastic achievement. What a fabulous way to start the show season, well done to you both.
There are quite a few Open Show results that have come in, but I’m going to be a bit cheeky here, as some people have sent their kennel names and others pet names. Now, usually, I scour the internet to find all the right names for everyone and put both into the report. But, today, I’m going to be a bit lazy and post them as I have them, I’m sure you all know who they are and if you don’t, well who am I to spoil your fun of rummaging around our breed website and database? We all know it’s the best way to kill a few hours!
Recently, I have noticed that there has been a lot of formality and discussion about new rules, regulations, eligibility for this and that, as the KC have introduced amendments for the forthcoming year along with seminars and information on the Judges Competency Framework (coming into play in January 2019), we seem to be constantly reminded to dot the “I”s and cross the “t”s. But, whilst this is very important, we must not forget what our hobby is about, that is, to have fun showing our dogs.
So this week’s notes are purposefully quite laid back, shall we say…
So here we go, in no particular order! (As they say!) at Gloucester & District Open Show, Malvern Showground, Nova won BOB (and 1st AV Gundog), and Dora won RBOB; at Maidenhead Canine Society, Connor BOB and Group 2, Bernard RBOB, Florence BP; at United Retriever, Connor BOB, Tring RBOB, Kenzie BOS & Camusmor BringMeSunshine to Menstonia BP; at Yorkshire Gundog, BOB was Sarah Burgess’s Camusmor King Rob, Best Puppy, Nikki Rice’s Tiamaria Mango Tango; at Caernarfon Show, BOB was Suzanna’s Jango, Eusanit Trick Or Treat, RBOB Alex’s Sansa; at Mid Western Gundog, BOB was Rowan, RBOB went to Kenzi, BP Catch First Svea Garonera; at Horley, BOB was Yulia’s Tring, RBOB was Fuard’s Tollelkin Bay of Ice, BP Amanda’s Ronnie, Stellenbosch Tiberon. See I told you there was lots, and I’ve probably missed one! So sorry this week, this is how it is, they’ll be formal style for Crufts I promise!
At the Kent Superdog Competition, Hazel Strevens’ Champion, Connor, Sh Ch Erikachen Conaire At Tollisty JW ShCM, made it to the final four dogs! Another fab result for the Erikachen Boys.
So, onto Crufts! Rachel Bradley, has been announced as this year’s judge for the Inter-Regional Rally Team Competition. We hope you enjoy your day judging, at what will be only the second year that the competition has been run. I’m sure Rachel is very proud and honoured to have been invited to judge and it is well deserved after all the work she has put into the Toller Rally League and also into Rally training at Stoneleigh, for all breeds of dogs , not just for Tollers. The competition will be held on Thursday, in the Obedience Ring, Hall 5 from 8.30 am onwards.
Ronnie Irving will be judging the Breeder’s Competition – and we have Toller teams entered, so please support if you are there on the day. The final will be held in the Main Arena at approximately 5.30 pm on Friday (Day 2). Friday, really is the day to go to the Main Arena, as Louise Ince and Troy, will be there too! The Heelwork To Music Crufts Final starts just after 12 O’ clock.
Tollers will of course be at Discover Dogs, in Hall 3, on all four days, so remember to encourage those with an interest in the breed to pop along and find out about our lovely dogs.
This week’s terrific Toller, is Laula, KC Name “Think Wonderful Thoughts”, owned by Auriane Whitmore. Laula can be found in the show ring, and really enjoys her showing. She qualified for Crufts in 2017 & 2018, but this is not her only hobby. She also gets involved in lots of other things, such as, Gundog training and Obedience work, although she particularly likes trying out new products with her mum. To this end we find what Laula is really famous for, she has her own dedicated Website, Instagram and Facebook accounts, where she showcases the products she tests for numerous companies, including Webbox , Guru, Home and Hound UK to name a few. She is a very lucky Toller and currently enjoys being sponsored by raw food specialists, Natural Instinct. I’m sure many of you will have seen her beautiful picture on recent Facebook posts by Natural Instinct. Laula will also be working with them on some of their future campaigns. She is also going to be involved in the new Webbox Natural Range being released soon.
So Laula, has now become a Toller Model, Product Tester for a number of companies, and Instagram Star with over 12,000 followers! She’s only just turned two years old, so can’t wait to see what she’s up to next! To find out more you can visit her website at http://laulathetoller.com the home of “Laula The Toller ~ The Wagging Life”. Or, pop along on Sunday 11th and see her in the breed ring on Gundog day at Crufts!
