Welcome to Pharaoh Hound breed notes for the shiny new K9 News website. I’d like to wish all success to this new venture and its quarterly partner, K9 News magazine, which is going to have its debut at Crufts.
Sadly, I start with news some of you may not have heard, Kate Harbinson (Actolia) of Northern Ireland, passed away after a stroke in the first week of the New Year. She and husband Roy’s first Pharaoh Hound was ‘Slaine’ – Int.Ch/Ir.Ch/Ch. Enigma Score The Lot with Actolia, a change of breed for them as they had previously been in Great Danes for many years. Slaine won 16 CCs, including Crufts 2004. He also won BIS twice at PHC Championship shows.Their second Pharaoh, also bred by Madelene and Sofie Lonn, was Enigma Quite A Showgirl with Actolia, who in recent years, was shown by Kate’s granddaughter Sarah, along with her Borzois. Sincere condolences to the family.
A great Pharaoh Hound dog also went over the Rainbow Bridge at the end of December, Kathy Carella’s AmCh./Can.Ch./Ch. Xo’s Invincible – ‘Brodie’. He was campaigned in the UK by Jill Morris, earning his Champion title. Brodie sired a litter here too, for Graham Reeve’s Annatefkah line, out of which we have the current Top Bitch.
A quick review to date – Top Pharaoh Hound Dog 2017, second year running, is Glyn & Christine Dawson’s Ch. Kurriera Orlando at Lyncris; Top Bitch is Ch. Annatefkah Thema at Rubasu, owned by Mr & Mrs Thomas and Top Puppy was Mrs J. Morris’s Ch.Tonispada Ozymandias Anharbn. LKA was unfortunately hit by a snowfall on Hound Day so only two of the twenty-plus entry managed to get there. BOB was awarded to Reynold’s Annatefkah Tumaini. Manchester Ch. Show saw a good turn out for Rachel Barney: BOB & BB was Ch. Annatefkah Tabitha Anharbn; Res. BB was Samway’s Kurriera Krystal Amethyst who won from Junior. Best Dog was Reeve’s Annatefkah Tum; Res. BD was Ch. Tonispada Ozymandias Anharbn and BP was the imported dog, Thomas & Holmes’ Qaxxuri L-Artist. We had the best day weather-wise as it looked as if subsequent days were subject to parking problems with cars having to be tugged off the grass. These two shows will be giving CCs to Pharaohs from next year so I do hope the Gods offer our days complete with favourable weather for travel!
News of Open show wins is welcome but there’s only one result at the moment: At Cambridge & City Open, Best AVNSC Puppy was awarded to Samway’s Kurriera Krystal Amethyst, but by the time Groups came round much later, she was ready for home, so no placing this time.
So January is over thank goodness; not my favourite month at all, the long drag from New Year to Spring seems to take ages while the rest of the year flies by and now some show schedules are out, we can plan our outings for the next few months. I think by now, a list of appointed champ show judges for this year has been put up on various other media.
Please contact me with any info, events, etc., you’d like mentioned.
